About Us

WHO? WHAT? WHEN? WHERE? WHY?

The Delaware Recreation and Parks Society (DRPS), an affiliate of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), was formally organized in January of 1967. Delaware, with thirteen charter members, was the second state to become a charter affiliate of NRPA.

Today, the Delaware Recreation and Parks Society consists of members from many disciplines including: park and recreation professionals, students, interested citizens, and commercial organizations.

The aim of DRPS is to unite all persons interested in and responsible for professionally planned leisure time activities including: recreation, parks, natural, historical, cultural, therapeutic, facilities, and conservation programs, into one organization.

DRPS members are involved in legislation relating to or affecting recreation, parks, natural and historical resources, and conservation. They actively participate with the education of individuals for career development in recreation and related disciplines. Members strive to develop citizen involvement in governmental proceedings and planning; whereby the recreation, park, natural and historical resources, and conservation potential of Delaware can be realized.
